WHAT COULD HAPPEN IN AVENGERS 4?
This SPOILER WARNING is brought to you by Peter Parker and Shuri recreating vines.
Avengers: Infinity War is arguably one of the most shocking MCU movies ever produced. The heroes scrambled to find a way to defeat Thanos, but came up short in the end. Now all of our attention has turned to the Untitled Avengers movie. How could our favorite characters be brought back? Where were Valkyrie, Korg, Hawkeye, Ant-Man, Wasp, and Kraglin? What happened to Shuri, Wong, and Pepper? Why did they try to convince us Loki was dead after a pathetic cheese knife stabbing? In this article, we will provide information that could possibly be seen in the next Avengers movie.
1. Who won’t be dead after Avengers 4?
This category is for characters that are almost 100% likely to survive.
Captain Marvel: She will have only been introduced to the MCU two months prior to Avengers 4, so it’s safe to bet that Carol Danvers will be fine.
Spider-Man: Our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man’s second installment is in for 2019 and is expected to be set directly after the events of Avengers 4. That being said, we’re sure the web-slinger is going to walk away from Avengers 4, but maybe with some PTSD or anxiety issues like his mentor Tony Stark. Even with that reassurance, his death was still painful. :(
Black Panther: As much as I would like Shuri to become Queen of Wakanda and take up the Black Panther mantle, our buddy T’Challa will presumably be back after Avengers. There’s also a sequel in the works, similar to Spider-Man, which almost guarantees his survival. That said, Marvel wouldn’t dare kill off Shuri, so she’s good as well.
Wasp: Everyone has been excited for Hope Van Dyne to finally suit up and kick butt with Scott Lang after Ant Man’s 2015 post-credit scene. After having been the first female hero to have her name in the movie title, Evangeline Lilly had to fill some big expectations, and she certainly did not let us down. It wouldn’t be reasonable for Marvel to kill off their first accurately portrayed female star. I’m personally hoping for a third Ant-Man movie to be titled “The Wasp and Luis-but-with-no-powers”. You heard it here first.
Rocket Raccon: A week ago, we were more certain about our favorite trash panda’s survival. James Gunn has previously said he wanted to explore Rocket’s backstory in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3. But with Gunn recently being fired, the third Guardians movie isn’t even confirmed to still be happening. If Disney were to assign Nicole Perlman, who has worked on the previous Guardians movies and will have credit to “Captain Marvel”, to direct, we could still have Rocket after Avengers.
2. Who might not survive Avengers 4?
This category is basically the odds of some of the original six Avengers, plus some others.
Black Widow: Being introduced into the MCU in 2010, Natasha Romanoff has been around for quite some time, and she’s done some good and bad things. Specifically on the bad things, she said in 2012’s “The Avengers”, “I’ve got red in my ledger, I’d like to wipe it out.” This could ultimately lead to a sacrifice from her. She also still owes Clint Barton a debt. Anyway you look at it, Black Widow seems to owe a lot.
Bruce Banner: Banner is a complicated one. He’s technically had a solo movie (even if it’s terrible and no one watches it), he’s had some good screen time in Avengers 1 and 2, and he got a great story arc in Thor: Ragnarok. We’ll have to see what plays out in Avengers 4, because Hulk didn’t want to show up. (And are we going to ignore how he wasn’t supposed to turn back into Banner after Ragnarok, yet it happened super casually in Infinity War?) What else is left for him?
Clint Barton: This one is also a tricky one. We still don’t know how Hawkeye’s story line
will play out in Avengers, but it sounds like it might be pretty bad. However, it would be cool to see Clint take over S.H.I.E.L.D. and start training some new Avengers.

Thor: Chris Hemsworth has said he would like to keep playing Thor, but what more could they do with him? We could see him rebuild the Asgardian population, hang out with Valkyrie, maybe do some stuff with Rocket, who knows? However, Thor and Taika Waititi are a package deal now.
Nick Fury: With some characters, you just have to get rid of at some point. Honestly, Nick Fury is one of them. He appeared in the first MCU movie, has faked his death, and has been in multiple post-credit scenes. He doesn’t really have anything else to do. Sorry Nick.
Maria Hill: Along with Clint, I would enjoy seeing Maria Hill in charge of S.H.I.E.L.D. and training new Avengers. She knows how to handle the organization and proved herself worthy in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
3. Who probably won’t survive Avengers 4?
Tony Stark: Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark started the beginning of the MCU in 2008. He brought it to life, he’s helped it thrive, and should ultimately bring it to a close. Whether we accept it or not, Downey’s contract is done after Avengers 4.
Steve Rogers: We all know how Chris has said he wants to stop playing Captain America, and his contract is presumably up. We also have Sam Wilson or Bucky Barnes to take over the spangled suit if Cap was to perish *spoken in Korg’s voice*.
